Esu is one of the Orisha which came from heaven to the earth using the Ewon (chain).  He is a great Orisha, one the most powerful Orisha.

After Orunmila initiated Esu (Edi Meji), it became necessary for Esu to be present at every meeting of the Orisa.  Esu must be appeased for one to perform a sacrifice.  If Esu is not fed first, the problem will not be solved or the question answered or message delivered.

Esu is the messenger of the Orisha.  He has the Ase and knowledge to correctly deliver every sacrifice or prayer.  It is the one that appeases Esu that he favors.
